Part Time (44 hours per fortnight) Veterinarian 

About Us:

The Lost Dogs' Home is proud to be Australia's largest animal shelter, helping thousands of lost and abandoned animals each year. We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing outstanding veterinary care to animals who find their way to us.
  
In the shelter, we provide veterinary treatment and care for animals as we prepare them for life with a new family. This means you will have the opportunity to perform complex workups on shelter patients, collaborate with a veterinary behaviour team, undertake surgery, and have the opportunity for further development in the unique area of shelter medicine

About the role:

At Lost Dogs Home Cranbourne, you will receive the right balance of support and challenges as you are empowered to develop your own shelter skill sets. As we do not offer a veterinary service to the public at the Cranbourne Shelter, there is no requirement for client consultations in this role.

You will be undertaking sole charge responsibilities only on every third Saturday (with potential to expand to Sunday's), all other days of the week you will have the support of another Vet.

On a day-to-day basis you will be:

• Providing diagnostics, treatment and care to lost and abandoned animals at the Cranbourne shelter
• Medical and surgical examinations in a shelter setting
• Conducting incoming animal checks if indicated
• Undertaking clinical examinations of animals in our care
• Undertaking routine surgical procedures.

About you:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled and committed veterinarian who practices and performs to a high standard of care in small animal medicine and surgery. Additionally, you will have:  

  • 3+ years of previous experience as a veterinarian (preferred)
  • Well-developed clinical and soft tissue surgical skills 
  • Sound emotional maturity and animal welfare ethics
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to delegate tasks effectively

  • Internal support where needed from the greater Lost Dogs Vet Team of 10+ vets with special interests in areas such as shelter medicine, orthopaedics, internal medicine, feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, behaviour and ultrasonography
  • Opportunities to further develop your surgical skills
