The team at Frank Samways is expanding and we are looking to appoint a Lead Veterinarian to provide leadership within our team of experienced Veterinarians to ensure we continue to provide excellent patient care to our clients and their pets. This is a newly created full time opportunity based in North Melbourne.

Frank Samways is a truly unique clinic in our community, this is a great opportunity to join a growing and progressive clinic, and to help shape our direction and standards of care. We are a modern, purpose-built facility, which not only provides services to privately owned pets, but the team occasionally look after stray and foster animals that come in through The Lost Dogs’ Home.



About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Veterinary Services, the Lead Veterinarian - Primary Care will be responsible for leading and managing our dedicated team of five permanent Veterinarians and our rotating casual Veterinarians. You will also be supported by the Veterinary Services Manager and wider team at Frank Samways and the shelter clinic.

In this leadership role, you will foster a collaborative team culture and provide guidance to the Frank Samways Veterinary team to ensure that decisions are always made in the best interests of the animals in our care. You will promote the personal and professional growth of your team by encouraging them to embrace change and never stop learning.

This role will largely be focused on medicine, however, there will be a small amount of surgery in partnership with our Lead Surgeon. The Lead Veterinarian - Primary Care will have a passion for client communication and customer service, and will motivate our Vets to provide a high standard of service to all our clients.

On a day-to-day basis your management responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the clinic is following best patient care practices and adhering to all relevant regulatory codes and licencing;
  • Overseeing the operation of the clinic to ensure high quality medical and surgical services are provided in an appropriate and timely manner;
  • Contributing to our strategic plan to grow profitability and commercial success;
  • Maintaining the highest quality of staff veterinary teaching and mentoring;
  • Assisting with recruitment, retention, and professional development of staff;
  • Implementing a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and excellence. 

 

About You

You will be a highly skilled and experienced veterinarian and have the passion, drive, and ability to work well with people. You will be an experienced people leader, but also have excellent clinical skills, with the capability of diagnosing, treating, and managing a variety of illnesses and injuries in small animals. You will be flexible and have the ability to switch gears quickly, and you will be able to see the big picture and remain positive in challenging situations.
