About the role
An exciting opportunity is available within the Shelter Veterinary Team at North Melbourne for permanent full-time Veterinary Administration Assistant. This position offers a fantastic chance to utilise your administration skills in a clinical environment and gain hands on experience in the Veterinary team. As a Veterinary Administration Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the team with administration support to ensure the smooth running of the veterinary hospital each day. Working alongside experienced vets and nurses, this is a rewarding opportunity to work in an environment where your contribution directly impacts the wellbeing of animals in need.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake administration tasks such as ensuring accurate paperwork is available for veterinary staff to complete.
- Preparing admit and discharge paperwork for shelter animals being desexed before they are reclaimed.
- Processing of completed surgery paperwork.
- As directed by the veterinary team, update Shelter mate information in accordance with directions for record keeping.
- Oversee the Shelter Veterinarian roster, ensuring an effective team roster is current & publishing monthly rosters
- Processing Microchip subscription paperwork forms.
- Assist the veterinary team with running of treatment lists.
- First point of contact for veterinary questions relating to the veterinary hospital.
- Booking surgical appointments on behalf of veterinarians or other department staff.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will be someone who enjoys administrative work and has a high attention to detail. We are looking for someone who is enthusiast to learn and upskill in the veterinary field, as you will be receiving and processing medical information for the shelter animals. You will also have basic knowledge of general animal husbandry, and a passion for animal welfare.
You will also have:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Administration and customer service experience.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient time management and multitasking skills.
- Demonstrated high attention to detail across all aspects of work.
- Capacity to remain resilient in a challenging environment, including exposure to behavioural euthanasia.
- Strong initiative and ability to anticipate the needs of the veterinary team.
