The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for volunteers looking for an administration based role where they can provide direct support to people who have newly adopted a dog from the shelter.

This interesting and varied role would include the following:

  • Responding to adopters and members of the public that enquire about behaviour training services and provide information on available programs.
  • Creating and confirming bookings via phone and/or email for behaviour training services (phone/online consultations, private consultations, puppy classes etc.)
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of interactions with adopters, bookings, and payments.
  • Checking in with adopters via phone and email to track the progress of their pet’s behaviour and provide further assistance if required.
  • Working closely with behaviour trainers to coordinate schedules and ensure adopters receive timely support.
  • Sending relevant education materials, resources, and follow-up information to adopters as required.
  • Ensuring the Behaviour Department’s databases are kept current with information about clients and their pets.
  • Helping to gather preliminary information for behaviour assessments by collecting information from surrendering owners.

We are looking for people who can commit to a 4 hour shift on a weekday from 10am - 2pm.

To be considered for this role, volunteers must be over 18 years of age and have the following skills and attributes:

Essential:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with adopters, members of the public, and team members.
  • Strong computer literacy skills, including use of Microsoft programs (word, excel, forms etc.)
  • Ability to empathise with adopters and surrendering owners to handle potentially stressful or emotional situations with patience.
  • A positive, mature, and pragmatic attitude
  • Attention to detail and an ability to follow instructions (both written & verbal)
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Follow and work within the LDH policies and procedures

Desirable:

  • An interest in animal behaviour and training (cats and dogs)
  • Familiarity with using databases or customer relationship management systems.

All volunteers will receive a comprehensive induction and training in the role.

Due to the popularity of our volunteer program, we cannot guarantee that all candidates will be offered a volunteering opportunity. If you miss out this time, we encourage you to apply again in future as more opportunities become available.
