The Role

We’re looking for people who are fit and confident in handling large breed dogs to help us with walking them on a Saturday at our North Melbourne shelter.

You'll play an important role in ensuring our dogs waiting to find their new forever homes receive socialisation and exercise. We'll provide you with the skills to use positive training techniques and it's an excellent way to get your exercise in each week and meet new friends, both two and four legged!

We are looking for people who can commit (for a minimum of 6 months) to a 3-hour shift on a Saturday.

The shift times are:
9am-12pm and 12pm-3pm

To be considered for this role, volunteers must:

  • Have experience with energetic medium or large breed dog (Husky, American staffy, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Bull Arab etc)
  • Be over 18 years of age

Please include the breeds of dogs you have owned in your application.

All volunteers will receive a comprehensive induction and training in dog behaviour, shelter safety and dog handling skills. Volunteers are also eligible for discounts for their pets at our Frank Samways Vet Clinic.

Due to the popularity of our volunteer program, we cannot guarantee that all candidates will be offered a volunteering opportunity and we will only contact successful candidates. If you miss out this time, we encourage you to apply again in future as more opportunities become available.
